This lamp should light when the ignition is turned On. After engine starts, the lamp should go off, unless a fault condition is detected by the EEC-IV system. A diagnostic trouble code is stored in the PCM. Following diagnosis and repair, the Check Engine/MIL lamp will automatically reset when stored diagnostic trouble codes are cleared from PCM memory.
